    Background: N'DJAMENA, CHAD

    Thousands of Chadians deported from Nigeria in January this year are still awaiting resettlement. The Chadian government are anxious to complete the operation since relief provisions in the capital city, N'Djamena are under severe strain. The Chadian Ministry for Natural disaster is co-ordinating the transportation of over 10,000 people to their home region with the aid of several relief organisations. The authorities aim to resettle the displaced persons in areas were they will have relatives to support them before thy join in agriculture work. Each person will also be allocated 25 kilogrammes (50 pounds) of rice donated by the Food and Agriculture Organisations of the United Nations, a ten kilogramme (22 pound) tin of biscuit provided by the Catholic Missions and a blanket and length of material given by the Red Cross.
