Background: On the last day of his five-day stay in Karachi, Pakistan's capital, the Duke of Edinburgh spent the morning ( Feb 9 ) at the Polytechnic Institute.
He was met by the Polytechnic principal Mr.A.R Khan, who conducted the Duke on his tour of the building. Prince Philip saw students at work in the electronic laboratory. Afterwards in the main hall he advised pupils not to seek well-paid jobs in commercial fields when they finished their studies - but to return and teach at the schools and colleges to alleviate the problem of staff shortage.
After his visit to the Institute, the Duke went to Dow Medical College. His last day in Karachi was rounded off with a citizens' reception, attended by more than 3,000 people. The following morning ( Feb 10 ) Prince Philip flew to Lahore, capital of West Pakistan. He arrived in Pakistan Feb 5 for a two week tour.
