Background: Visnews films the unloading January 8 at Colombo, Ceylon, of 50 London double decker buses, sold to ease Colombo's transport problem - too few buses for too many people.
They arrived, lined up on the deck of the liner "Tide Crest", looking a little as though still in convoy halted in some traffic jam in Central London.
Their bright red paint shone in the Ceylonese sun, their publicity signs still urging Londoners to stake money on this football pool or to buy that brand of tea. Tea...from the land of tea: Ceylon.
Now these buses have died in the hearts of Londoners. Last year's bus strike made them disdainful. Bus passengers became tube travellers.
