TRANSCRIPT: MUSA (SHOT 1): "Almost all of the Ethiopian important battles against colonialism were fought inside Tigre."
HAGOS (SHOT 2): "And we are...our forces are now very active today there. Therefore this is a very great blow to the Dergue regime which is trying to portray that there is stability and peace in the area. So that this can very clearly show the horrors of the Dergue propaganda. One of the (indistinct) one of the demands of our people and these have been distributed in the liberated and semi-liberated areas and these have been democratically distributed taking into consideration the different aspects of the land question in Tigre. Therefore, every person now in Tigre, every family now has a piece of land at its disposal. And one other problem, especially there, are the problems of implementing this, then the people are...political education given so that they can control their problems and agriculture."
MUSA (SHOT 3): "The massive support of the Soviet Union in arms and in all sorts of support to the Dergue regime, is only a temporary regime to our people, or the people who are struggling in the fight of self-determination."

Background: Members of the Tigre People's Liberation Front (TPLF) -- a group fighting for the independence of Ethiopia's northern province of Tigre -- met the Press in Rome on Thursday (15 April). Seyoum Musa, a member of the TPLF political office and the group's foreign relations president attended the news conference with Asfaha Hagos, a member of the TPLF central committee. They told journalists that the TPLF's activities presented a serious threat to the government of Mengistu Haile Mariam in Ethiopia. The Tigre province, bordering on Eritrea, has been the scene of guerrilla clashes with government troops for more than six years. The TPLF is one of several guerrilla groups working inside Ethiopia today, after the revolution which brought down Emperor Haile Selassie's regime in 1974.
