Background: The "peace proposals" battle continued in the Middle East today (Sunday) with Israel firing the latest shot. The Israeli cabinet met in Jerusalem today (Sunday) to draft a reply to the latest counter proposals by Egypt on a cease-fire extension. The Egyptian draft was in response to the Israeli proposals put before United Nations mediator Gunnar Jarring.
Israel pledged to continue to strive for peace under Mr. Jarring.
Israel was disappointed at the publication of Egypt's proposals last week and Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir called them "merely declarations......not a reaction to substantive matters."
Israel will probably suggest that points in the Egyptian and Israeli proposals which are similar should be further studied.
