Background: Several hundred steel-helmeted policemen, supported by dozens of plainclothes men, battled in Vienna, Nov 21, with some 2,000 Communist demonstrative who tried to break up a Monarchist meeting in the city's Concert Hall.

Members of the Austrian Monarchist movement gathered there to hear a speech by the Archduke Otto, the Austrian pretender, on the eve of his 48th birthday.

Left-wing demonstrators hurled stones, injuring two policemen. Police wielded truncheons to keep the crowd away from the hall. Only a few hecklers got in. More than a dozen demonstrators were arrested.

After the meeting, Archduke and his supporters left the hall by a back door to avoid hostile crowds.
