Background: Tugs assisted the British aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" on her way into New York Harbour, early on Feb 18. Commanded by Capt. Hill-Norton, and equipped with Scimitar fighters, the huge vessel is on a courtesy visit, which will include a children's party on board, Feb 20.

Gun salutes exchanged by the US Army at Governors Island and the aircraft carrier awakened New Yorkers, who telephoned the police in their hundreds to find out what was happening.
