    Background: INDIA'S PRIME MINISTER, MR LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI, SAID TODAY (MONDAY) THAT THE UNITED NATIONS CEASEFIRE RESOLUTION DESERVED 'CAREFUL CONSIDERATION'. HE WAS COMMENTING IN NEW DELHI ON THE SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION DEMANDING A CEASEFIRE BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN BY 0800 G.M.T. ON WEDNESDAY.

    THE INDIAN LEADER GAVE NO FURTHER COMMENT, BUT SAID HE MIGHT MAKE A STATEMENT ON IT TOMORROW.

    IN THE MEANTIME, FIGHTING BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN CONTINUES. DURING THE NIGHT PAKISTAN AIRCRAFT MADE SEVERAL ATTACKS ON INDIAN BASES, INCLUDING ONE STRIKE AGAINST AMBALA 120 MILES (192 KMS) NORTH OF NEW DELHI. IT WAS THE SECOND TIME IN A WEEK THAT AMBALA HAD BEEN ATTACKED.

    FOUR DIRECT HITS WERE SCORED ON THE HOSPITAL, INCLUDING ONE OF THE MAIN WARD. EIGHT PEOPLE WERE KILLED - SOME OF THEM PATIENTS. OUTBUILDINGS WERE ALSO DAMAGED AND TELEPHONE WIRES WERE BROUGHT DOWN.

    BOMBS ALSO FEEL ON THE CIVIL SECTION OF AMBALA. A NUMBER OF BUILDINGS WERE HIT AND INDIAN AUTHORITIES SAID FOUR CIVILIANS DIED AND 12 OTHER WERE HURT IN THE RAID. MUCH OF THE DAMAGE WAS IN THE 'MODEL TOWN' WHERE A LOCAL SOCIAL CENTRE, THE SARHIND CLUB, WAS PRACTICALLY DEMOLISHED.
