Background: The Foreign Minster of The People's Republic of China, Chi Peng-fei, who is visiting Britain, had a ninety-minute meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Heath on Friday (8 June).
During the meeting, Mr. Chi invited Mr. Heath to visit China this year, and Mr. Heath accepted the invitation with pleasure, according to British officials.
Their meeting comes at the end of two days of talks between Mr. Chi and British Ministers on a wide range of topics. Mr. Chi is the first Chinese Foreign Minster to visit Britain -- he is accompanied by twenty officials.
The Foreign Minster's talks with Mr. Heath were expected to cover East-West relations and European Common Market affairs, in which the Chines are especially interested. On Saturday (9 June) Mr. Chi will watch a demonstration flight by the Anglo-French supersonic airliner Concords at Fairford in Gloucestershire.
