Background: The Duke of Edinburgh visited the drilling rig Sea Quest, forty miles out in the North Sea, today.

As soon as hid helicopter landed him, the Duke was advised where his lifeboat station was, in case of emergency, and then he went to watch operations on the drilling floor. As a precaution the Duke was asked to wear a safety helmet. He was shown how natural gas is being piped from the sea bed. The gas has been flowing since March, to the shore station at Easington, in Yorkshire, and within the last few days has started to go into the National Grid.
