Background: Continuing a series of proceedings the West German authorities have been carrying out against previously unprosecuted Nazi war criminals, two former Nazi concentration camp guards, Gustav Sorge 47, and Wilhelm 'Pistol' Schubert 41, were filmed by VISNEWS Feb 6 when sentenced by a Bonn court to a total of 113 concurrent life sentences of hard labour for brutal murders of Jews and Political prisoners committed at Hitler's Sachsenhausen camp, North of Berlin.

Sorge, known as 'Iron Gustav', received 67 concurrent life sentences-one for each murder of which he was directly responsible, and fifteen years for inciting or participating in 20 other murders. Schubert received 46 life sentences plus an additional sentence of fifteen years.

Some 150 willing witnesses have appeared during the four month mass murder trial.

Meanwhile in West Berlin, 16 policemen have been removed from duty pending investigation of their roles as members of the Nazi Gestapo 'special "Police Battalion 9" during the war. Among the "delightful" exploits of this 400 man elite battalion were mass shootings on the Russian front and the suppression of the Warsaw ghetto uprising.
