    Background: When U.S. jets fly missions against the enemy in North Vietnam, the payloads they carry are "tailor made" by experts in ordnance. These Marines in South Vietnam are some of the busiest men around as they load and arm their squadron's F8U's.

    Because air strikes cover a great variety of terrain and targets, the bombs and rockets the planes carry must necessarily be varied in do the precise job intended for each mission. Once the specifies of each mission are known to the ordnance leaders, they can select the proper weapons to be placed in the bomb racks of each airplane.

    Ordnance loading takes place while the planes are being readied for flight. When the racks are filled, the places are hauled directly to the flight line. Racks secured to its underside, the jet taxis down the runaway where other ordnance men set the fuses or "arm" the bombs and rockets so they will explode as intended. For safety reasons, this dangerous job is handled far from parked aircraft and the hungar areas.

    After the fuse setter gives the pilot the "go" sign, the jet is ready to take off and deliver its convincing load of ordnance to the enemy.
