Background: The fifth Regional Conference of the Food and Agricultural Organization opened in Saigon, capital of South Vietnam,Nov 21.
Representatives from 22 countries attended the conference to discuss ways for coordinated production and distribution of agricultural products, and getting farmers best value for their produce.
Among the important delegates was the Indian Minister for Agriculture,Dr. P.S. Deshmukh, and Ministers, from countries that do not themselves suffer from hunger , but help others with technical aid.
During the conference, lasting until the end of November, important subject for discussion include:food position in Asian countries; long term development of agriculture; technical assistance, and the campaign for "Freedom from Hunger".
