Background: The Royal World Premiere of Jack Le Vien's unique new two hour colour film, THE FINEST HOURS, which is Sir Winston Churchill's own story as told in his Memoirs of the Second World War, takes place in London's Royal Festival Hall, at 8.15 p.m. tonight (Wednesday April 29). The occasion promises to be one of the most distinguished and glittering of the year, attended by many celebrated guests, including H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G. K.T., and Lady Churchill. The Premiere is sponsored by the English-Speaking Union and will benefit Scholarship and Travel Grant Programmes.
THE FINEST HOURS begins its West End season at the Columbia Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, on the day following the Premiere, April 30. The film is a Columbia release through BLC.
H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh will be greeted at the Main Entrance of the Royal Festival Hall by the Rt. Hon. The Chairman of the London County Council, Mr. A.E. Wicks J.P. and the General Manager of the Hall, Mr. T.E. Bean. Inside the Main Entrance, the Duke will be met by Lord Baillieu, Chairman of the English-Speaking Union, and Sir Francis Fogarty, Director General of the Union.
The Duke will then proceed to the Ceremonial Suite, where he will have presented to him lending figures connected with the English-Speaking Union and with the production of THE FINEST HOURS. He will then meet other distinguished guests gathered in the Ceremonial Suite, including Lady Churchill and The Earl and Countess of Avon, before proceeding to the auditorium to see THE FINEST HOURS.
