    Background: The U.S. Presidential adviser on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Henry Kissinger, is touring South East Asia on a trip in which he will seek a ceasefire in Laos, friendlier ties with North Vietnam and better relations with The People's Republic of China.

    Dr. Kissinger was given a last-minute briefing by President Nixon before leaving Andrews Air Force base, near Washington, on Wednesday (February 7). He visits Bangkok to confer with Thai leaders and the U.S. Ambassadors to South Vietnam, Laos and the Khmer Republic.

    After visiting the Laotian capital of Vientiane, he opens four days of talks with North Vietnamese leaders in Nanoi on Saturday (February 10). Discussions will cover observance of the Vietnam ceasefire and U.S. aid in the reconstruction of areas destroyed in bombing raids.

    During his visit to Peking, Dr. Kissinger will confer with the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, Chou En-lai, on ways to improve Sino-American relations.

    SYNOPSIS: The United States presidential adviser on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Henry Kissinger, left Washington on Wednesday on a thirteen-??? peace mission to South East Asia. Dr. Kissinger is seeking an extension of the Vietnam cease-fire to the neighbouring countries of Laos and The Khmer Republic The United States also wants to improve relations with North Vietnam and The People's Republic of China. During four days in Hanoi, he will discuss the possibility of U.S. aid to help North Vietnam rebuild its h???ily bombed cities.

    Dr. Kissinger received a last-minute briefing from President Nixon before leaving Bangkok, his first stop on the trip. In Peking he will confer with the Chinese Prime Minister, Chou En-lai, on ways of improving Sino-American relations.

    He will also be able to sound out the position China will take at the International Conference on Vietnam in Paris on the 26th of February. Dr. Kissings will break his tour with a two-day rest in Hong Kong.
