TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: The Agriculture Department estimates farmers will harvest more than 6 billion bushels of corn this Fall................... this year's crop is well ahead of schedule in many part of the country and, so far the weather has been good but some farmers are wary of this year's good fortune fearing too much corn will drive grain prices down and they say that will hurt consumers too.

MAN: High production and relatively low farm prices may not and will not be in the consumers' best long term interests.....................relatively high consumer prices.

REPORTER:.......a big corn crop could help base the food price spiral which has plagued consumers in recent years, both beef and pork prices are extremely high right now, because farmers have to cut costs by producing less. Most of the corn in this country is fed to cattle for meat production and experts feel lower feed prices could encourage cattlemen to produce more.
