Background: Prince Philip flew to Karachi from Dacca aboard a Comet, Feb 5. At the airport he was met by Sir Alexander Symon, U.K. High Commissioner to Pakistan who introduced General Mohammed Ayub Khan, Pakistani President.
After the National Anthems and guard of honour inspection, Prince Philip drove to the city with General Ayub in an open white Cadillac. The seven-mile route cuts through rocky, uncultivated hinterland. As the hills dropped away small knots of people appeared at the roadside, gradually thickening when nearing the city.
Later the Prince attended the opening session of the eleventh Pakistan Science Conference, Karachi. General Ayub welcomed him and expressed satisfaction that his presence should inaugurate this the second decade of the Pakistan Science Association.
