    THE AIRCRAFT, A CANADIAN-BUILT CARIBOU, BELONGED TO LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ROBERT H. NIMMO, THE AUSTRALIAN-BORN CHIEF OF THE UNITED NATIONS OBSERVER TEAM WATCHING OVER THE NOW DEFUNCT CEASEFIRE LINE IN KASHMIR. ONE OF ITS WINGS WAS BURNED OUT, AND THE AIRCRAFT IS CONSIDERED A COMPLETE LOSS.

    IT WAS WAITING TO FLY GENERAL NIMMO TO RAWALPINDI, WHERE HE WAS DUE TO CONFER THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL, U THANT, WHO AT THE TIME WAS BEGINNING HIS PEACE MISSION TO PAKISTAN AND INDIA.
