Background: Britain's heavyweight, Henry Cooper, battered his way through 10 dynamic rounds to register a points victory of America's Zora Folley, London October 14.
Cooper is now considered within reach of a world title fight with Floyd Patterson. Promoter Harry Levene said after the fight that he would live up to a promise he had made and would arrange for a world championship fight between Cooper and Patterson in London next summer.
But the fight itself was desperately close one. By the third round the fight seemed to be Folley's. After two comparatively quiet rounds the tall American suddenly let fly with the full armoury.
Smashing long straight lefts into Cooper's face, he opened an old wound above the British boy's left eye, splitting his left eyelid.
After being on the receiving end of a number of rights to the chin, Cooper took a count of eight.
From then he slowly battered his way back into the fight. By the start of the tenth round the pegging could have been level. It was the last round that gave Cooper victory.
