    TRANSCRIPT OF SEQ. 4:

TWITCHELL: "I really don't know if this kind of thing will happen again. The Olympics and bringing all of these cultures into one city -- is part of all of these kinds of cultures within Los Angeles coming together and doing a project, so it's really sort of a microcosm of the Olympics itself. I'm not sure that kind of a thing will ever happen again. These murals will be here, literally you know, well into the 21st century."

Background: Visitors to the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles -- and Los Angelenos themselves -- will be treated to a unique outdoor art exhibit. Ten United States artists have been selected to paint murals on locations adjoining the sprawling metropolis's network of motorways. And as virtually everyone in Southern California travels on the freeways, the murals will be seen by millions. The painters are working on underpass sections, on concrete retaining walls -- anywhere, but always against the incessant noise of passing motorists. The artists have been allowed to develop their own themes; may have incorporated the Olympic symbol of triple rings, but all designs have the dual objective of commemorating the Los Angeles Olympics while brightening the day of motorway travellers. Los Angeles artist Kent Twitchell, a participant in the mural-painting scheme, hopes the murals will last well into the 21st century.
