Background: At the first U.S. Marine Corps Division Sniper School at Da Nang, South Vietnam, Master Sergeant Paul Dudash of Oceanside, California, instructs men in the finer points of long range marksmanship. The men are taught to use the M-7-- sniper rifle, which uses a 3 to 9 power scope and is extremely accurate at ranges of over one mile. Aiming points are shown on an outlined target.

After completing their course, a sniper team is escorted into a suspected Vietcong zone and left there to harass and kill the enemy. This sniper team is made up of Corporal Eliseo J. Ogden, Utah (left), and corporal James Edney of Livonia, Michigan. After ???Dney confirms the enemy target, Corpora Martinez takes careful aim and slowly squeezes off a round -- a team action that has proved successful twenty-six times for this marksman team.
