Nearly a month after the death of President Nasser, Egypt's new President, Anwar Sadat, has given his first television interview.

TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 3: INTERVIEWER : "What social background did your parents come from ?."
SADAT: "Peasants. Yes. In the house that I was born in we had the stable in which we bathed everyone, with us, in the same house. Just like any other peasant."
INTERVIEWER: "What do you to when you're not working, to relax ?"
SADAT: "Well my main hobby is reading and writing and walking. I used to play tennis, but I couldn't find time now to play tennis."
INTERVIEWER: "What is the big problem that Egypt is facing at the moment?"
SADAT: "Well, the big problem is our occupied territory. this is my biggest problem now, we are facing."
INTERVIEWER: "How do you see the future ?"
SADAT: "Well, I shall do my best to follow the policies of my late dear friend, President Gamal. But, no one will capitulate here in this country. I am not ready to capitulate or to surrender one inch or a bit of sand from our land."
