Background: Tragedy at a level-crossing near the village of Parkland in southern Alberta, Canada. A Canadian Pacific Railway 'dayliner' and a petrol tanker collided - resulting in the death of the tanker driver, and five train passengers.

The truck - believed to have been almost full of petrol - was said to have hit the second of the train's two carriages at right angles. Petrol sprayed over the coach, then caught fire. In a few moments, it was a mass of flames and melting metal. Bodies of the truck driver and the five train passengers - all believed to be women - were ch???red beyond recognition. Parts of the truck were found up to fifty yards from the point of impact.
