Background: On October 10, Mr. Khrushchev arrived in Moscow after his visit to China for the 10th anniversary celebrations in Peking. On his way home he made an unexpected detour, stopping and meeting the people at Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirak.
On leaving his aircraft he was greeted by President Voroshilov, and among other Soviet leaders there to welcome him were Mr. Suslov, member of the Soviet Communist party Presidium, and Mme. Furtseva, the only woman member of the Party's central committee.
Notable features of Mr. Khrushchev's Chinese visit were his statement that warlike behaviour by Communist countries was not desirable, and his praise for Mr.Eisenhower's desire for peace. During his Siberian visits he spoke of the need to improve the supply of consumer goods in the Soviet Union.
