    NEARLY 170 DRIVERS ARE COMPETING IN THE 2,400 MILE (3,850 KM) ROYAL AUTOMOBILE CLUB INTERNATIONAL RALLY WHICH COUNTS TOWARDS BOTH THE WORLD AND EUROPEAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

    THE FIRST STAGE WAS FROM HEATHROW, NEAR LONDON, TO SELBY FORK, SOUTH OF LEEDS. COMPETING IN THE RACE ARE HARRY KALLSTROM OF SWEDEN, AND GILBERT STAEPELAERE OF BELGIUM, WHO ARE RUNNING NECK TO NECK FOR THE EUROPEAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP. THE BRITISH RALLY INCLUDES 72 SPECIAL STAGES AND FINISHES IN LONDON ON WEDNESDAY (NOV 19).
