Background: The 1,000-kilometre (621-mile) Nuerburgring sports car race, June 7, was won by Stirling Moss in an Aston Martin DBR1/300. It was is second successive win in the event, and the third year in succession that an Aston Martin had won the race.

In the twenty-third lap. Moss's co-driver Fairman - who drove in rainy, wet track conditions for seven out of the forty-four laps - skidded into a ditch and lost the lead built up by Moss. After Fairman had manhandled the car back on to the track and into the pits, Moss took over again and built up a lead of a minute by the thirty-third lap. Taking over for the last time, Moss recaptured the lead from a Ferrari in the thirty-ninth lap and raced ahead to his hard-fought win.

The Aston Martin's time was 7 hour 33 minutes 18 seconds - an average of 82.51 mph. Moss clipped his lap record of 9 minutes 32 seconds ( average 89116 mph ). Second was the Ferrari driven by Gendebien ( Belgium) and Hill (USA) and third the Ferrari of Tony Brooks ( Britain) and Behra (France).

The only serious crash of the race occurred when a German car left the track, injuring Swiss driver Meyrac.
