SYNOPSIS: The final was between Kantou and Maty, both from the Maradi area of Niger. Kantou has his back to the camera.
The Minister for Youth and Sport, Mr. Garba Sidikou, watched the contest. Sixty wrestlers has taken part in the competitions, which began in December.
Kantou was the champion in 1975. To reach the finals, he'd beaten the man who defeated him in last year's competition.
It was no easy match for Kantou. It took him two hours and 45 minutes to defeat Maty.
Kantou - the 1977 Champion. The victory also means glory for both wrestlers' home district. There was also a more tangible prize, in the form of a winner's purse.
