    PARLIAMENTARY LEADERS WHO HAD DISCUSSIONS WITH PRESIDENT SARAGAT TODAY INCLUDED COMMUNIST SENATORS PIETRO INGRAD AND UMBERTO TERRACINI, AND CHRISTIAN DEMOCRAT SENATORS GIUSSEPPE CARON AND GIULIO ANDREOTTI, WHO AFTERWARDS SPOKE TO THE PRESS.

    LATER TODAY IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT SENATE PRESIDENT AMINTORE FANFANI HAD RECEIVED AN 'EXPLORATORY MANDATE' TO TRY TO FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT FROM PRESIDENT SARAGAT. AFTER SOUNDING OUT POLITICAL LEADERS, HE IS EXPECTED TO REPORT BACK TO PRESIDENT SARAGAT BY TOMORROW (3 AUGUST) AFTERNOON.
