Background: Donald CAMPBELL'S Bluebird racing car is now on LAKE EYRE.And this film which reached ADELAIDE tonight shows the Bluebird and its convoy making the final journey of thirty-five miles to LAKE EYRE from MULOORINA station. The average speed of the convoy was little better than walking space.
The bluebird is being towed by an Army type blitzwagon, more than twenty years old.At this stage, the truck's hydraulic brake system failed - five miles from MULOORINA.
Mr.LEO VILLA, the chief Mechanic for the Bluebird project, made a brief check of the racing car while men of the Army's Central Command unit repaired the truck's braking system. The towing cable was also checked.
Tonight, the BLUEBIRD is under guard on the Lake.Unless there is an unforseen delay, the Bluebird will make its first trial run on LAKE EYRE tomorrow.
