    Background: A United States Air Force attache was kidnapped by guerrillas Tuesday (March 24) outside of the plush Ambassador hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

    Lieutenant Colonel Donald Crowley, the band of guerrillas warned, would be killed if the Dominican Republic government did not release 21 political prisoners by 10 A.M. Wednesday.

    Local police said the kidnapping was carried out by five or six men dressed in military uniform and armed with rifles. Police are engaged in a massive manhunt.

    Crowley who is 47 is married with 4 children. He has been with the U.S. military mission in the Dominican Republic since May 24, 1968. Crowley is the third United States diplomat to be seized in Latin America since September.
