Background: Tourists call Bukhara the treasure-hove of millenniums, the museum city, tourists who come to that ancient city from many countries of the world.

The more than 30 various architectural monuments of Central Asia beginning from the 9th century still amaze visitors with their brilliant architectural solutions, exquisiteness and originality of ornamental decorations, with the everbright blue domes...

The Bukhara Forum is one of the most famous ensembles in the city.

It was formed by one of the most ancient mosques in Central Asia -- the Kalian, or Big Mosque, the muslim school of Mir-i-Arab built in the early 16th century and the big Bukhara minaret, or Kalian minaret, of the 12th century.

    The Mis-i-Arab muslim school...

Any Moslem have heard about it...

The building houses the Higher Religious School training representatives of all the Moslem republics of the Soviet Union and students from various eastern countries, who decided to devote themselves to the Moslem religion.

    The Kalian Minaret...

This is the tallest of the ancient buildings of Soviet Central Asia. It stand more than 150 feet high.

Every Friday muezzins climb its 104 steps to call the Moslems to prayer...

In times of old a flame used to burn on top of it all the time for the caravans in the desert to find their way...

Warriors were on a constant watch atop the tower as from above it was possible to spot the approaching enemy troops from a long distance...

One of the rulers of Bukhara issued orders that criminals sentenced to death should be dropped from the minaret. That was why the minaret acquired its second name of the "Death Tower"...

And this is the last structure that was built on orders of the last Bukhara Emir. This was the Emir's summer residence -- the Makhas Palace.

The palace strikes one with its unlimited lavishness of decoration. Many things were borrowed from European architecture. A republic-wide sanatorium is now housed in the palace.

    The Chasme Ayub-Khan Tomb...

Its appearance is imposing and severe...

The unique monuments of the architecture of the Middle Ages of Bukhara have many thing of interest to attract many tourists from abroad.
