Background: The first session of the Fourth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference opened in Peking on the morning of December 20th. Chou En-lai, chairman of the National committee of the CPPCC, presided over the meeting.
The conference heard a report by Kuo Mo-jo, Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC, on the work of the third national committee. The report summarized the work of the past five years and the main future tasks. It called upon the prominent people of all circles to rally around the Chinese Communist Party and Chairman Mao Tse-tung and play a positive role in the Socialist revolution and socialist Construction.
The current CPP CC national committee has a total of 1,199 members of whom 394 are new. Among the members are representatives of the Chinese Communist Party, the democratic parties, peoples' organisations and representatives from all walks of life including people who have distinguished themselves and blazed new trails in the fields on industry and agriculture, scientific research, engineering and technology, culture and education and medicine.
