Background: Finally, back home again for film of one of the Royal Navy's biggest battleships of the second world war, H.M.S. HOWE, starting out today on the last voyage of her career -- to the breakers' yard.
The thirty-five-thousand ton giant was leaving Devonport on the way to Rosyth in Scotland. The HOWE is the last of the King George the Fifth Class battleships.
She took part in Arctic convoys to Russia in nineteen-forty-two and forty-three and later helped to cover the Allied landings in Sicily and on the Italian mainland. Before joining the Reserve Fleet she saw service against the Japanese in the Pacific.
