Background: Following the decision of the Plenum of the International Astronautic Federation, adopted in the previous Congress convened in Rome, the VIII International Congress is being held in Barcelona.
The plenary and technical sessions are held in the building of the High Council of Scientific Research.
In the field of science, the assistance given by the National Committee of the International Geophysical Year and the National Committee of Astronomics have been of considerable value.
From the very start, numerous acceptance were received and the contributions and reports from scientists from America, Britain Russia, Sweden, Argentina, Italy, France, Holland, Austria, Poland, and Brazil were highly interesting and informative.
Among the subjects on the agenda was one dealing with the control of artificial satellites, the process of ascension of satellites in the final phase. Also dealt with was the investigation of cosmic radiations by means of artificial satellites, and also the problem of so constructing the satellites that they become visible from the earth.
Present during a lecture with a diascope was Mr Simons, the American who went up to 30,000 metres in a balloon.
Also shown was a scale model of the American missile "Vanguard", which will be used to launch a satellite to a hight of 480 kms.
