Background: Soviet Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Cao ky attended a rally of ??? to President Thieu's one-man campaign in Saigon (2 October). The Vice-president, surrounded by bodyguards, told the audience that a dictorial regime would be set up in South Vietnam Presidential Election went ahead. He then called on va??? polls. The meeting was organized by the People's ??? Against Dictatorship and at one stage there were ??? of possible confrontation between opposition grave and troops and police. SYNOPSIS: Troops lined the streets of Saigon as a coalition at groups opposed to South Vietnamese president Thieu held a rally, on Friday.
There was a tense and ??? calm as crowds were under the constant watch of the South Vietnamese troops.
The featured speaker at the rally, Vice-President Ky arrived two hears late. Earlier, police lobbed tear gas into rival groups of demonstrators fighting outside the rally site. As he arrived at the rally, the Vice President was surrounded by a large contingent of body-guards and newsmen. Troops loyal to the Vice President closely guarder Mr Ky during the meeting.

In the past months, students, veterans and Buddhist monks have staged rallys and demonstrations like this one. There have also been attacks against American official vehicles in opposition to the election. Mr Ky and his supporters hope that people will boycott the election as means of protest to the Thieu regime.
