Background: The first western rock concerts ever held in China were staged in Beijing (Peking) on Sunday (14 March). About 2,000 people, three-quarters of them young, packed Beijing's Hong Ta Hall for shows by two little-known bands, Spyz of Australia, and an American group, Morning Sun. The audience responded with enthusiasm, standing on their seats and singing and clapping during the performances. The Peking concert was broadcast throughout China by the national television network. Further concerts were held in the towns of Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou and Wuhan.
