Background: Greek film star Melina Mercouri, back in Athens after eight years of exile, today (18 August) showed she'd lost none of her political fervour when she vociferously supported a hunger strike by 100 Greek-Cypriot students.

Hundreds of other demonstrators joined the Cypriots in the protest - designed to call attention to the lack of international action over the cyprus situation. The Students spoke. So did Miss. Mercouri:
During her yes of exile, Miss. Mercouri was active in opposing the military regime in Greece. She returned to her native country last month under the amnesty granted by the new Greek civilian government.
