    Background: THE 15TH OF NEXT MONTH WILL MARK THE FIRST YEAR OF CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF DENMARK AND CONGO-KINSHASA IN THE OPERATION OF THE RED CROSS TEACHING HOSPITAL IN KINSHASA. ALREADY THE HOSPITAL HAS TRAINED ABOUT 230 MEN AND WOMEN NURSES, MID-WIVES, ANAESTHETISTS AND X-RAY TECHNICIANS.

    DENMARK IS PROVIDING ABOUT 1,000,000 DOLLARS A YEAR, AS WELL AS STAFF, TO FINANCE THE RUNNING OF THE HOSPITAL. THE CONGO PROVIDES 80,000 DOLLARS. DANISH STAFF INCLUDE 54 PERSONNEL OF ALL TYPES, INCLUDING DOCTORS, AND IS PAYING FOR ALL MEDICAL INSTALLATIONS. THE CONGO IS PROVIDING A STAFF OF ABOUT 230.

    THE HOSPITAL HAS 300 BEDS AND PROVIDES ALL THE SERVICES OF A MODERN HOSPITAL. OF THOSE BEING TRAINED THERE, ABOUT 80 WILL BE FUTURE HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATORS. THE HOSPITAL IS ALSO GIVING POST-GRADUATE TRAINING TO CONGOLESE DOCTORS, SOME OF WHOM WILL BECOME SPECIALISTS.

    THE HOSPITAL IS ALSO GIVING INFORMATION ON BASIC HYGIENE AND NUTRITION TO ALL WOMEN PATIENTS, AND THOSE IN CONFINEMENT ARE ALSO TAUGHT HOW TO LOOK AFTER THEIR BABIES. DENMARK PLANS TO CONTINUE CO-OPERATING IN THE OPERATION OF THE HOSPITAL FORT THE NEXT 20 YEARS.
