Background: Thousands of devout Moslems have been gathering at Karachi readying for their pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. They are staying at the Haji camp near the harbour of this West Pakistan port.
For the faithful, the pilgrimage(Hajj) must be carried out at least once during a lifetime - and now, in the last month of the Islamic year, is considered the most worthy time to make it. Many Pakistani pilgrims had been forbidden to make the Hajj because of the Into-Pakistan war. Since his inauguration as President last month, Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has ordered the resumption of the pilgrimage.
For security reasons, coverage of the actual sailing departure was not permitted.
