Background: Tokyo was en-fete Feb 23 after an announcement that Crown Princess Michiko had given birth to a son - one week prematurely - at the household hospital in the Imperial Palace. The baby weighed five pounds nine ounces. Mother and son are both doing well.

The new-born Prince now stands second in line for the 2,600 year-old Chrysanthemum Throne behind his father, Crown Prince Akihito.

Formal naming of the baby- first for Crown Princess Michiko (25) and Crown Prince Akihito (26) who wooed and won his commoner bride after a fairytale romance last year - will take place Feb 29 when he will partake in the traditional 'First Bath' ceremony, and the Emperor will give him his name and title, Until then he will be known only as "Shinno" or Imperial Prince.
