Background: Dracula, a witch, a ghost and three other costumed "creatures" turned up at the White House on Thursday (31 October), tricking and treating for UNICEF.
They were greeted by Mrs. Betty Ford -- now fully recovered from surgery for cancer of the breast. The President's wife dropped a coin into each child's box and gave each a Halloween treat bag of goodies from a straw basket.
It was one of Mrs. Ford's few appearances outside the White House since she underwent breast cancer surgery five weeks ago. Doctors report that her recovery has been excellent and that the chances for her prolonged good health are extremely favourable.
After chatting to the Halloween collectors for a few minutes, America's First Lady invited the children into the White House for a snack.
