Background: The big four United Nations Ambassadors held their 41st meeting on the Middle East Crisis in New York this week at the French Embassy.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Alexei Zakharov of the U.S.S.R.; Frederick Warner of the United Kingdom; Charles Yost of the United States and Jacques Kosciusko-Morizet of France.
Pentagon officials in Washington say the emphasis at the talks is firmly on the need for a prompt start of peace negotiations. They also expressed concern over Israel's continued stress on alleged Egyptian ceasefire violations, fearing it could endanger Washington's initiative for a settlement in the Middle East.
After the meeting French Ambassador M. Kosciusko-Morizet announced the date for the next "Big Four" meeting, but made no further comment.
