Background: Cricket -- and the West Indies bowled Australia out for 94 runs in Trinidad on Wednesday (18 April) to give them victory in the fourth test match. The Australians collapsed on a bad batting wicket, and thanks to fine bowling by off-spinner Derek Parry, the West Indies clinched the test series 3-1 and thus regain the Sir Frank Worrel trophy.
SYNOPSIS: The West Indies in their second innings had only added 10 runs to their overnight total of 280 when they lost their last wicket. Philip plays forward to a ball from Yardley and is caught by Wood. He had made 46 runs.
The Australians got off to a lively start as opening batsman Darling cracked Philip for four runs.
But Darling was not to last long. Playing off the back foot, he had his leg stump uprooted by Philip. He had scored six runs and Australia were nine for one.
Graeme Wood, the other opener was the next to go. Attempting to avoid a low ball from Holder, he was out l.b.w. for 17.
Jumadeen bowling to Toohey, and he gets a very thick edge....it is up in the air and he is caught by Bacchus.
With the score on 44 Yallop came in to bat. And he managed to push the score on a little as he drove Jumadeen for three runs.
But it was Jumadeen who struck the next blow. Sergeant gets an edge and is caught close-in by Bacchus.
Australia's skipper Bob Simpson was Jumadeen's next victim. Out l.b.w. for six runs. Australia 76 for 6.
Then off-spinner Bruce Parry started the rout. Yallop is caught behind by Kallicharran for 17.
Yardley on three was his next victim. And that is his off stump gone.
Jumadeen bowls to Rixon....and that is four valuable runs.
But Rixon too fell foul of Parry's bowling. Australia 86 for eight.
parry then wrapped up the Australian innings. Clarke is clean bowled for a duck....and last man Higgs goes the same way. Parry grabbed the last five wickets for only 15 runs, giving the West Indies a 198-run win. With one test left to play they have already won the series.
