Background: As many as four thousand people may have died in the earthquake which ravaged towns and villages in Fars Province, in southern Iran on Monday (10 April). The earthquake struck in the early morning, and the death toll would have been higher had many people not already left their homes to pray or work in the fields.
This film shows the devastation in the village of Ghir, near the epicentre of the earthquake. Of a population of 3,315, nearly one thousand were still missing late on Tuesday, and the village itself was a total wreck.
