Background: I believe that societies like ours have problems that derive from modern life. It's a question of finding a way to adapt. To solve the problems which have presented themselves, I think we have air already started initiatives which can favour and help to ascertain a future of peace and progress for our country. For example, the constitutional reform which was announced and has been established. This is very important. And the other reforms which we have the intention of carrying out in all the economic, social and political areas. All this will ensure for Ethiopia, a future I hope as great as in the past. And I think also that peace in the Middle East is also favourable to the development of our country as well as to all our neighbouring countries. It is a very difficult problem, which I have known well since was our country's ambassador to the United Nations in 1966-67. And we now seems to be finding solutions and means to allow all the peoples to live in coexistence and to work together instead of fighting one against the other.
