    Background: The wave of pro-Bangla Desh demonstrations currently sweeping India brought protest marchers out into the streets of Calcutta yesterday (Tuesday). In this case, the demonstration took an anti-American turn -- the Americans are still unpopular for their arms supplies to Pakistan.

    One target for the marchers was the office of United States Information Service. But police headed the demonstrators off. They also cordoned off the route to the Governor's residence, when the demonstrators decided to demand state pressure for official Indian recognition of Bangla Desh.
