Background: His Majesty King Faisal 11 yesterday opened the four-day celebrations of the silver jubilee of the Iraqui Red Crescent Society.
In a speech before a large and distinguished gathering at the Amanah Hall, His Majesty spoke of his great interest in the Society, an interest derived from his appreciation of the social and humanitarian service which the society extends to the Iraqui people. His bonds with the Society were still further strengthened by virtue of his grandfather, the late King Faisal 1, being its founder. His father, King Ghazil, also took a great interest when he was alive; and his mother, the late Queen Aliyah, was the President of the women's branch of the Society.
Arab and Moslem traditions call for aid and relief to the suffering and in that the Society plays an important contributory part.
Immediately afterwards the King opened a fair organised by the Society in the grounds of the King Faisal 11 Hall. The well-known Iraqui artistes Huda, the oriental dancer, and Afifa Skender, singer and dancer, performed for the pleasure of the guests.
