Background: India's Prime Minister, Mrs. Gandhi on Monday (7 Feb) presented a gift of urgently needed relief supplies to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The presentation was made in Calcutta on the second day of Sheikh Mujib's visit to India.
He and Mrs. Gandhi have had lengthy talks together -- and its understood Sheikh Mujib gave the Indian leader a thorough assessment of the situation in his country, and an outline of the policies his government will follow.
SYNOPSIS: Calcutta - where crowds gathered to cheer the Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Monday - the second day of his visit to India. The visit has been marked by lengthy talks in which it is understood the Sheikh gave Mrs. Gandhi a detailed assessment of the situation in his country.
A bunch of keys symbolised a gift presented by India to the government of Bangladesh. The gift consisted of motor vehicles and urgently-needed relief supplies. Included in the gift are tents tarpaulins, clothing, milk powder - and jeeps, trucks and ambulances.
Later - a civic reception in Calcutta for Sheikh Mujib.
There, the Sheikh was presented with a silver model depicting Indian soldiers carrying the Bangladesh flag. Sheikh Mujib was to speak to the crowd - and told them of the atrocities he said had been carried out against his people by the Pakistan Army.
