Background: Belfast, the capital of the strife-torn province of Northern Ireland, is showing signs of war as the campaign of violence continues. There are few parts of the city that have been unscathed by the bombings and shootings that now provide a background to all facets of Belfast life. The bombings are also taking a toll of the capital's economic strength and fears of economic stagnation in the area are growing as explosion after explosion wracks the city centre.
