Background: Dr. Jonas Savimbi, President of the Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), has said that several Cuban soldiers captured recently in southern Angola would be displayed in Kinshasa, Zaire, soon.
Dr. Savimbi was speaking at a news conference in Kinshasa on Wednesday (21 January), after conferring earlier in the day with the President of Zaire, Mabutu Sese Seko.
He also referred to an attack on the town of Dilolo, which is inside the Zaire frontier with Angola. He alleged that Cuban soldiers participated in a declarations, Zambia might be the next country bordering on Angela to come under attack.
The UNITA President also criticised what he called increasing Soviet intervention in Angola -- involving huge shipments of sophisticated weapons and the presence of about 10,000 Cuban troops.
The creation of a Government of National Union was the only possible solution to the civil war in Angola, said Dr. Savimbi.
